BRISTOL Airport Taxi

So, nice and easy, walk out through the main entrance and... there you go, what was AIRPORTCARZ and is now CHECKERCARS, Uhmmm.

Lets quote the speal that Bristol international airport gave us last year "Press Release on behalf of BIA" I will quote "important to seek the best possible service and standards for our customers"

Now I will have to agree that Checker cars is providing a good service, they are convenient, and it is a 24hr service. That said are they looking after you the customer. No.

For some strange reason BIA has put themselves in the position that we, us, all Bristol Taxi companies have serious trouble picking up and dropping of our customers! Why?

The pick up and set down area of the airport is now reserved for Checkercars and Coaches, that is the area that was designed for that purpose has been closed to properly licensed and plated Publice Hire and Private Hire vehicles from not only Bristol but any area except if your name is Checkercars. This does cause problems for customers certainly mine. My more elderly passangers have a fair old walk to the departure building now. Passangers whom have made a booking through my company will struggle to find me in the Rapid Pick Up Car Park which by the way is too small and at busy times fills up completely.

So why is it that Bristol Taxis cannot pick up or drop of at Bristol Airport easily? Because they have been paid off by selling the concession!

So of course BIA only had you the customers interests at heart. Why is it them that you are paying up to 3 times the normal fare that you would be charged within the Bristol Tarriff structure, not only that person A is going to place Z but also person B gets in with you who has also paid his fare and he wants to go to X !

Why not get your own properly licensed Bristol Taxi and travel in comfort ojn your own if you wish either to or from BIA and we will charge you a fare price.

Rant Over. or you could use my company! Bristol Taxi Cabs

Thank You.

The BRISTOL TAXI Service

We Know Where We Are Going!

Polite, Friendly & ON TIME

http://www.onthemeter.co.uk

Paul Rogers On The Meter TaxiHi and thank you for visiting our site. I have been a Taxi Driver in Bristol for just over 20 years and have teamed up with some of my long standing colleagues and friends to start this company in 2007. Bristol Hackney cabs.

No excuses, No "Sorry the driver has just had a puncture!" No "The driver knocked on your door but had no reply" No "We'll be there in 5 mins..." and still waiting in an hour" Just First Class Service from one of the Little Guys in the TAXI Business

We can offer you a standard of service which will not be beaten in The Taxi Business. Our aim is to offer you the customer these things: polite courteous drivers who know where they are going! Reasonable Fares, High Standard Vehicles and a level of service that will surpass any Bristol Taxi Company you have used before.

The vehicles we use are all new or recent and of a very high standard all with air-conditioning. Vehicles have passed stringent licensing conditions as have our drivers whom have all taken the appropriate tests and have had Criminal Records Checks, and are Licensed by Bristol City Council.

Try us out and you will be our customer for life! whether you use us once a year or 7 days a week. Take a look around the site, I have listed some common fares and some of the more usual airport prices along with some special offers. If in doubt just give me a call and ask! Feel free to use the links on the left.

How Taxi Fares Are Calculated

A mystical art, BRISTOL TAXI prices!Hackney Cabs within Bristol are governed by Bristol City Council and the prices or fares within Bristol are set by the Council. However for journeys outside of the City there is no set pricing. You are left to decide upon a price with your driver. So, how do drivers arrive at a price?Generaly pricing is done “on the hoof” some drivers refer to a price book which is not endorsed or regulated by Bristol City Council! The pricing strategy is arrived at by these things…

What time of day is the journey? If the journey is made during the day we of course have to take into account Traffic.
How many people or Drops? If there is more than one stop or drop off then there will be a small surchage .

Is it a straight run, i.e. Motorway all the way or country roads? Obviously if the journey is direct via motorway for a 50 miles as opposed to a 50 mile journey via A or B roads the later would be more expensive.

So ultimately you are paying for these elements…

Time & Fuel Cost here is the formula that can be used…

M = Milage there and back, F = Cost of fuel per gallon, MPG = 35 Avg miles per gallon for vehicle used, AVG = 55 mph Average speed for whole trip, HR = Preffered hourly wage

(M / MPG * F) + (M / AVG * HR) = FARE

For example… London City there and back 240 miles

240miles / 35mpg *£5.00 =£34.29

240miles / 55mph * £25=£109 Total fare £143.29

Add these 2 figures together to give you the fare. However, some drivers may charge £10 ph and some more but it does show you the customer what elements are used in pricing. For more info or to book visit http://onthemeter.co.uk

Thanks.

Your Customer rights

When travelling in a taxi, customers have the right to:

A Licensed And Knowledgeable Driver

Taxi drivers at all times must hold a current Hackney Carriage or Private Hire License. The driver must display their License Badge identification so that passengers can readily identify the driver to their satisfaction.

Their choice of a preferred route

A passenger can specify the route to be taken to reach the stated destination. If a route is not specified, the taxi driver is required to take the most direct, practicable route available. The driver may use satellite navigation equipment if they are unfamiliar with the route.

Access to view the metered fare

When a passenger starts a taxi ride, the meter must be turned on when fitted at the correct tariff rate. It is not permitted to operate a taxi with a defective meter. The meter must be in clear view and show the fare to be paid. Tolls, where applicable, may be an addition to the metered fare.

A clean and roadworthy cab

It is a basic right of the customer to expect to travel in a clean, safe, tidy and roadworthy cab. The Hackney or Private Hire Plate/License should be fitted to the front and rear of the vehicle.

Air conditioning

A customer has the right to have air conditioning in the taxi turned on or off. However, taxi drivers are not expected to meet unreasonable requests which may impair their ability to provide a safe ride, such as setting air conditioning to levels which create discomfort.

No music or conversation

A customer has the right to request a ride to their expected comfort level. This includes the right to have a music system or radio turned off or down. Customers may also advise the driver if they wish to complete the taxi ride without conversation.

Accompanying guide dogs or hearing dogs

Guide dogs and hearing dogs for people with a vision or hearing impairment must be accepted by the taxi driver for carriage within the cab.
All other animals are not permitted in the cab and drivers must refuse a request for them to be carried.

Refuse multiple hiring

Customers who have hired a taxi are entitled to exclusive use of the taxi for the course of their trip.
If a customer does consent to a multiple hiring (sharing the taxi with other people), the first and subsequent hirers must be travelling in the same general direction. The fare for each destination is 75 per cent of the metered fare.

Use valid credit or debit cards as displayed in the cab

A driver must provide customers with the ability to pay by credit or debit cards when applicable which are displayed in the taxi.

A receipt or tax invoice

On request, the driver must provide a receipt that is legible and contains the following details:

  • Signature of the driver
  • Number of the taxi-cab
  • The Driver Badge number
  • All items which make up the total fare
  • Total amount paid
  • Payment date
  • Driver's Company Number

The driver is obliged to explain to the customer how the fare was calculated if requested at the end of the journey.

Customer responsibilities

Customers must abide by the following requirements:

Booking Times

The customer is obligated to arrive for their booking no later than 10 mins after booking time failure to do so will involve further cost to their journey.

Fare payment

When hiring a taxi-cab, a customer has entered into a legal agreement to pay the metered fare and any tolls incurred in providing the services.

Wearing of seat belts

All passengers must wear seat belts and ensure that any person under their control who is 16 years old or younger is also wearing a seat belt or appropriate restraint.

Number of passengers permitted to be carried in the taxi

A taxi driver is not permitted to carry more passengers than the number which the cab is licensed to carry. This number will be indicated on the vehicle. Therefore, a passenger cannot request the driver to carry more than the permitted number of passengers.

Customer Behaviour

Customers whom are abusive or violent will not be transported and may still incur a charge.

Fouling The Vehicle

Fouling of any of our vehicles by a customer during a hiring will be liable to a "Fouling Charge" which is in all cases £75 in addition to any fare already owed.

Safety Tips when catching a Taxi

Stay Safe

Please be safe when using any Taxi and follow these rules:

It is safer to book your cab or Taxi directly from a company or an individual you trust.

All Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles carry identification or Licensing numbers at the front and rear of the vehicle, make sure they are visible, the driver must also be displaying his/her badge which will have a photo of the licensed driver along with his/her driver number and will be issued by Bristol City Council. If he/she does not have a badge visible do NOT get in the vehicle. If you have a complaint against a driver these details will help find out whom the driver is.

Only Taxis with the sign on the roof saying "TAXI" are legally licensed to be Flagged down on the streets, Private Hire Cars must be booked in advance. That is not to say that Private Hire cars are unsafe but just that they are licensed for a different purpose.

Let someone know or tell a friend that you are taking a Taxi home, maybe even ask them to give you a call to make sure you have arrived.

Lastly, if you are unsure about a Cab or Taxi don't get in! wait until the next one arrives or why not call me!

If you are unfortunate enough to have a problem with any TAXI or Cab and are unable to resolve the situation through the management you should complain to the relevant licensing authority, in the case of BRISTOL it is of course BRISTOL City Council. To save you time here is a link to their complaints form and procedures.
